SHOTS FIRED ATU.S. CONSULATE

Toronto police are investigating after at least one shot was fired outside the U.S. Consulate in downtown Toronto early Monday morning, prompting a significant police response around the diplomatic building. Officers were called to the area of 360 University Avenue shortly before 4:45 a.m., where they located evidence that a firearm had been discharged.

According to police, investigators recovered one shell casing outside the consulate and are reviewing the circumstances surrounding the incident. Authorities said a white sedan was seen fleeing the area shortly after the gunfire. No suspect descriptions have been released, and no injuries have been reported.

Investigators have not confirmed whether the U.S. Consulate was the intended target. The incident comes roughly four months after the building was struck by gunfire in a separate shooting, an investigation that previously resulted in multiple arrests after police alleged the attack was part of a gun-for-hire scheme involving young suspects. That previous case led to increased security around the diplomatic mission, with officers maintaining regular surveillance of the site.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford condemned Monday’s shooting, calling it “totally disgusting” in a statement posted to social media. He also referenced the recent attacks targeting two Jewish-owned businesses in Toronto over the weekend, saying active police investigations are underway and expressing confidence that those responsible will be identified, prosecuted, and held accountable. Police continue to investigate Monday’s shooting and are asking anyone with information or video footage from the area to come forward.
